Oily skin is due to the over production of sebum or oil by the sebaceous gland which is responsible for oil production within the skin. Sebum is necessary for the skin to function normally as it plays a vital role in skin barrier protection.
Severe sebum secretions often take place on the T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) which may result in clogged and enlarged pores along with unwanted oiliness in thicker skins.
