Acupuncture has been practiced for many thousands of years. It’s believed to have originated in China. Throughout the years it has continued to develop to a  refined, very efficient and sophisticated medical system, TCM. The main and most well known treatment modality being acupuncture. However, the medical system also includes herbal medicine, diet advice, cupping and massage amongst other things. 
There are several hundreds of acupuncture points on the body, mainly located along  14 meridians or channels. By inserting the very fine disposable needles into specific points, signals are transmitted through the body to repair and restore body function. From a Chinese medical perspective it is the Qi (life force/energy) that becomes regulated from this stimulation. In more modern terms this can be seen as regulating the nervous system, neurotransmitters and hormones.  The goal is to aid the body’s natural healing ability and promote equilibrium.

Chinese herbal medicine is based on the same medical system as the acupuncture but health goals are reached by taking herbs instead. Acupuncture and herbs are a very effective combination for many problems but they can also be used on their own. A herbal prescription will be put together based on traditional formulas but tailor made to fit the individual and his/her presentation. Magdalena also uses medicinal mushroom powders where appropriate to enhance the effects of the herbs. A typical prescription will contain 8-20 different herbs well chosen for their combined synergistic effects. All herbs used by Magdalena will have gone through rigorous controls in the UK to check for contamination and ensure that only plant materials are used.
