Soft tissue therapy aims to release pain, tension, and stress from muscles, joints, and other soft tissues within the body. This is performed by way of Sports massage or remedial massage. All treatments are evidence-based and specific to every injury, pain, or stress you might feel.

Cupping is an ancient Eastern technique that is backed up by Western medical research. 

Cupping aims to increase blood flow, decrease pain, facilitate the lymphatic system, and lastly relax the central nervous system which can all contribute to recovering from sports injuries, fatigue, and muscle soreness.

This appointment starts with an objective assessment of the area that will be treated. This will include ROM testing, Palpation and a subjective pain test.  

We will then proceed with cupping massage to promote blood flow to the superficial tissues. Once there is redness to the superficial tissues, we will then increase the pressure within the cup to create a negative pressure. 

As a by-product of cupping you will be left with the traditional "red marks" which are called Ecchymosis. These are not bruises, it is only discolouration of the skin due to microtrauma to the superficial blood vessels caused by the negative pressure.

During this appointment the aim is to release overall mental and physical stress, relax large muscle groups, increase blood flow to promote tissue healing, relax the central nervous system, and increase the activity of the lymphatic system; assisting in moving any swelling, toxins, and byproducts from the muscles and surrounding tissues.

This appointment will start with a 40 minute remedial massage and then finishes with a 20 minute cupping therapy session.

Remedial massage is a deeply relaxing massage that involves the use of the therapist's forearms and open palms to apply light to medium pressure on large muscle groups including the neck, shoulders, and the whole of the back which responds very well to remedial massage.

To help you relax and destress, the treatment room is always warm, the bed is heated with an electric blanket and the area of your body that is not getting treated is covered with a cozy towel. The use of heat is also used via an infrared lamp (optional) to promote blood flow, warm muscles and help relaxation. 

 

The goal of remedial massage is to release overall mental and physical stress, relax large muscle groups, increase blood flow to promote tissue healing, relax the central nervous system, and increase the activity of the lymphatic system; assisting in moving any swelling, toxins, and byproducts from the muscles and surrounding tissues.
